Statement by Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff on Passover

OTTAWA - Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff made the following statement today on the celebration of Passover:"As Canadian families come together at the Seder table this evening to begin Pesach, we will celebrate tradition and religious observance and reflect on the importance of tolerance, respect and the belief we must act from the best within us towards others. In the reading of the Haggadah we will speak of how a personal understanding of faith and freedom is essential to how we define ourselves – within our communities, our country, and the world.

In these ways, Pesach celebrations touch and inspire all Canadians, regardless of their faith. They are opportunities to reflect upon the values Canada shares with the State of Israel and to affirm our unwavering, principled support for its existence in peace and security, just as we support the efforts of its neighbours to live in peace and security.

On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I wish all Canadians the very best for this year's Pesach.Chag Sameach L'Koulam."
