Looking over today's papers the front pages are full of the Ann Coulter debate, the niqab ban in Quebec and broadbased concerns over the future of government programs in health and education. In the United States the tea party movement continues and Obama becomes a more polarizing (polarized?) figure daily.
Yet voting rates have fallen and my (non-political) friends scoff at the rudeness and lack of direction in Parliament (and they say that about both sides of the House).
The sad truth is people are (rightly) worried about the future of Canada. Will there be a pension for me? If I get sick will there be decent care? Where is the country I grew up in? And people are not confident that Canada at 150 will be the place they want and they are not confident any of the political parties can steer us to a safe harbour.
As a Canadian I see these fears -- and I feel them myself.
That's why I am anxious that the Canada at 150 conference be a success. We need fresh ideas and people to reinvigorate the political world. I appreciate that the Liberal Party is hosting this conference but I'd be glad if the other parties did similar events -- I'd be glad to go (if they'd have me).
We need to figure out where we want to be and how to get there. Yes, I'd like a Liberal Captain but that's not as important as a safe passage to the right destination -- we have some work to do!!!

If I get sick will I get decent care? Hah! My wife IS sick and can't get the medical tests that would help determine her path of treatment for at least 4 months. She probably won't die. Probably.
The only way to survive on a Canada pension appears to be kill 11 kids, go to jail, and put the money in a trust account. Then, when you get parole you'll have plenty saved up.
There is spin going on that this event is non-partisan. This is nonsense. It is a major fundraiser for a party that needs funding quite desperately. There is no problem with this just don't try and tell us it is non partisan. It hurts the credibility of the event.
If you visit the "official" website you will see that EVERY page has a link to Michael Ignatieff.
Further, if you want to attend the events across the country you punch in the number of tickets you want (they are free) and then you are redirected to the Liberal website. From there you must fiil out your name, address and email etc. This info is obviouly being used to recruit new members.
Nothing wrong with that IMO just be honest about it.
Nice to see your not banished to video hookup.
Here comes the bus for Iggy, the train has already collided with it(Liberal party), now you idiot's are gong to let Bob Rae be forced down your throats as your next leader.
Suicide isn't painless..........
