Cuts to women's groups?

The story below is short on details -- that's always a credibility concern.

I just find it odd that the Federal government would have such a tin ear as to cut funding in a major way now.

On the other hand, they have done some really bone headed things before.

All in all I'd like more details and both sides of the story -- less spin more facts:

A women's rights group is charging that the Harper government has cut funding for 11 women's groups in the last two weeks, just prior to June's G8 summit at which maternal health to a key part of the agenda.

So wilson, where's your link? Where's the comparison with previous years so we can see whether the amount has gone up or down? I checked on one, which received less than half of what it had received in 2008. Where's the information on how much went to fundamentalist-run organizations? Where is the complete list of organizations which had their funding cut, and reasons for the cuts?

They are grasping at straws.

I remember when NAC (National Action committee on the Status of Women) suggested they represented 4million women. They were/are simply a radical leftist group.

Wilsons point is obvious. A list of "womens groups" (whatever that means) that are funded could be considered proof that the current gov't does support women. But the lefties demand more info. They want the bar set higher for the proof of their opponents.

Bottom line; for some no amount of funding would be enough. It is about politics pure and simple.

I hope Hilary Clinton isn't quiet at the G8 on this botulistic attitude on the part of Canada. This stance is world wide reaching for women.

Hillary Clinton isn't quiet on anything. I would point out to anyong that she won't make noise about this on her native soil. It won't go over there very well.

Hillary also made it clear when she was in Canada that the abortions performed must be legal.I assume legal either in American law or in the country in which the abortion is to be performed.

It would appear that in many African countries where almost all abortions are illegal there won't be abortions performed anyways.

Remember as well, the Canadian parliament was asked to vote on the matter by the Lib party. The Libs allowed it to be defeated. It would now be unparliamentary to fund abortions. For that nugget you can thank the Liberal party.

Presumably a lot of their MP's didn't take the matter seriously and could not be bothered to vote.Others voted against it.
