Teaparty triumphs!

Or so today's news says.

And certainly the push in America to minimalist government seems to be strong. It will have an impact in the next election.

But what's behind the strength?

It isn't a groundswell of support for libertarian ideals -- rather it is a sense among many Americans that government has not been supporting them or their needs.

Whether on the right or the left there is belief that government has let people down -- what should be done is in dispute but the problem seems accepted.

Those in the teaparty movement are looking for change -- some are fixated on "turning back the clock" but others, perhaps most, are not so much conservative as fed up. Practical policies, clearly described, can attract broad support.
