Masks unlawful if worn during an offence #G20

According to the Criminal Code, wearing a mask is a crime when worn during the commission of another crime.

Certainly torching a police car would count -- but in general wearing a mask, or a gas mask, is quite legal in Canada.

Some cities have bylaws against masks -- usually with exceptions for religious, medical and recognised holidays. Thus, concealment laws exist in Montreal, Quebec City and Trois-Rivières. These laws may be subject to challenge on federalism grounds.

New York City has had a ban on disguising or masking one's face in public since 1945.

Thanks for alerting me to the fact that "Masks unlawful if worn during an offence #G20".

I was all set to write a blog post saying that I would be in favour of enacting just such a law!

I still might... perhaps the law could be extended somehow to include such things as protests???
