And he's right -- that explains the otherwise incomprehensible debate over the census. The two sides are not speaking the same language and so there is no effective dialogue.
Oddly enough, as I mentioned elsewhere, despite the worldviews, in practice the Conservatives have not actually done much that is very conservative. In fact, their policies have been liberal, dressed up to look conservative.
Perhaps that suggests the reality is more sensible than the rhetoric?

I'm sorry, James? What policies?
Can you name anything Harper has initiated and completed in the, "building", category?
yuch: Morton reprises his worst musing, yet, and twists his knife into the Lib. party even deeper. So what are you saying, the Cons. are essentially Libs in wolf's clothing, so: a) not only should voters continue to support them, but b) the Libs. should also stop opposing them on things like the Census & the gun registry & their war on expertise & the civil service since if they're really Libs in disguise we'd so the same thing? Sheesh, who are you: Iago?
We speak to each other all the time. We're neighbors. It's the press and dishonest politicians that stir up the anger and frustration. The every thing is black and white BS. Out here we get along fine.
Great! I will think about it...
