Colonel Williams to plead guilty to murders

This is a bit curious. He will get 25 years for sure so why not do a trial on the offchance the Crown case falls apart. Maybe there is remorse? (Not that such would affect sentence here)

BELLEVILLE– Colonel Russell Williams, once the commander of Canada's largest air force base, will plead guilty to killing two women, sexually assaulting two others and to a string of fetish break, enter and thefts, his lawyer told a court this morning.

I suspect he thinks it is best for him to get on with his new life. The road to redemption can be a long one.

Perhaps -- but I suppose it could be so.

They suggested on the news last night that it was to secure the best conditions possible in prison? Couldn't say. I don't do criminal law but I understand that guilty pleas for murder are pretty rare--you really have nothing to lose by mounting ANY defence no matter how far fetched.
