Pootoogook, a Canadian leader -- but what did he do?

When I was in Cape Dorset I ran across a solitary grave.

It was on a hill overlooking the harbor and apart from a large wooden cross (that had fallen over) the grave was unmarked. No one seemed to know much about the grave except it was (probably) where Pootoogook, the great camp leader was buried.

But finding out who Pootoogook was or why he was “great” was impossible. Apparently he negotiated with the Hudson’s Bay Company and led his followers for many years through the 1950’s to safe and fruitful hunts but more than that is unknown. Does anyone have any information?
