A little walk

The cold is deceptive.

At first it doesn't seem any different than the cold down south. Perhaps a bit of a sharper nip but that's it.

Then you realize your nose is rimmed with ice. And that's within walking a hundred yards.

You start shaking.

It starts deep inside you. You feel a chill in the middle of your chest, your belly and your groin. It's an odd feeling coming out of nowhere. Not really painful but not pleasant either. You can't stop shaking.

The wind cuts through the parka, the balaclava, the scarf and the gloves. Suddenly you realize how easy it would be to freeze to death.
