The recording was made in Berlin on 20 September 1932, after his first appearances in London and the USA, and after his return to London for further performances of The Land of Smiles in May/June 1932. Within six monthsof the session, he left Germany forever.

To express himself by using rubato, enhances rather than diminishes the song. It is after all, a serenade, & would be diminished by an inferior musician who sings it to a metronome beat & is too 'precious'. Tauber's singing style is one of an incisive attack, - he was not given to slurring.
