A Conservative friend writes

"I appear to be in the minority what with every political pundit predicting a Conservative minority BUT I think that is there is a latent resentment out there over Harper's "contempt" behaviour and I remain convinced that there will be a shift in the opinion polls that will accelerate after the debate. The Liberals will pick up this support at the expense of the NDP."

Totally agree with your "there is a latent resentment out there over Harper's "contempt" behaviour" comment. Older people especially have a respect for our democratic institutions with many in the past having fought sacrificing blood, sweat and tears while some even gave their lives to ensure we continued to enjoy them, while on the other hand the likes of the HarperCONS showed only distain for them.ENOUGH HARPER!

The "contempt" narrative will die.It is only a issue with partisans.
The election will be on bread and butter issues, and Harper will win.

I don't see it happening.

The areas where the Libs will most likely find growth is in Toronto. They already have most of TO anyways.

The Libs are badly regionalized. Most of there growth would likely come in the areas they are already strong.

There are not enough swing ridings in play for the Libs to win.If the Libs win them all (which is statistically impossible) it might be tight.

A more reasonable scenario to end the gridlock is for Canadians to decide enough is enough and vote for a majority. It ends the usefulness of the BQ and forces the politicians to put there interests aside for four years. There is only one party that can deliver on that;It ain't the Liberals.

anonymass, Canadians can't vote for a majority of any kind.

Repeat after me.

Canadians can vote, one at a time, in ridings all over the country, for .

You're thinking of the USA where voters anywhere can vote for A TICKET.

Try and pull your head out of Harper's greasy ass.

Dana;

You are a moron.

I know how the system works.

What I am suggesting is that some Canadians could vote for the Cons. simply with the hope of putting you and your ilk out of your misery.

How long would the next minority gov't last? How many mor evotes

The Libs cannot get a majority. They pissed away the West a generation ago and squandered Quebec through their own corruption. They cannot sweep Ontario because the right is no longer split.

There is only one party that can win majority gov't and that is the Cons.

5 new leaders in 8 years and somehow Liberal party members are still enthusiastic of starting an election when they are 20 points behind and their leader is less popular than Dion`s dog? Even the `thinkers conference` last year was a gut punch when long time Liberal Fowler said the party stands for nothing and will do anything to get elected.

This is just a noisy and expensive way for the Liberal party to go out with a bang.

Fowler wasn't exactly giving the Harpercons a ringing endorsement neither at that Thinkers' Conference if memory serves. Your point?

Perhaps a look at CARP's latest polls should be an eye opener. A group that actually does show up to vote on election day are not particularly amused with the Harpercons these days.

“To this observer, it seems Liberals today don’t stand for much in the way of principle,” Fowler said on Sunday to Liberals gathered for their big “thinkers” conference in Montreal.

Purpose and direction are what motivate people over the long run, not lies, hype or made up scandals. You can't have solid leadership when you never have the same leader.
