NDP candidate drops out; throws support behind Liberals

Gosh that takes guts. Especially as he must have lost a lot personally making this decision. Still, good for him!

BRAMPTON—A New Democrat candidate has given up on his own party and dropped out of the race to throw his support behind his Liberal opponent because of his belief that his efforts would only help the Conservatives get a majority.

"I made a strategic decision," Ryan Dolby who was running for the NDP in the Southwestern Ontario riding of Elgin—Middlesex—London, told the Star on Wednesday. "I believe that is in the best interests of my family and generations to come, my community and the country at large."

You're kidding?

How do you think your supporters would feel if you were to drop out because you felt the chances of winning were not good enough to beat a dreaded third candidate?

Would you support most Libs running in Alberta dropping out because they cannot win?

Be careful. The Libs are not competitive in a lot of places. It might happen somewhere.

Would an ethical lawyer say "Your honor I can't win so find my client guilty.Give'm ten. " ?

It takes more guts to finish what you started.

The NDP will just find some other rube to fill in for him.

Tony Genco must be an incredibly brave man, then.

Anon number two. No, this guy doesn't have guts. He is a coward looking out for his best interests.

Ryan Dolby on the other hand, is a patriot who understands that our democracy is under attack from the fascist stephen harper.

Same response to the Rat. A fitting name, I must say.

The theme is if they support the Libs then they are brave; If they abandoned the Libs they are rats.

Nice progressive party you have there.

No, but possibly a brown paper bag found under a table at a restaurant.

Heh, I understand you right wingers are immune to details, so be it.

By the way, have you joined the traitor stephen harper's online campaign to spread the lies? Or are you doing it for free, derived from a sense of duty?

Seriously, at least make some cash from selling your soul.

Tony Genco has also lost a lot personally.

Considering the Tories almost got 50% last time around in this riding, it will only have an impact if their vote drops a fair bit, still it may help elsewhere in other more competitive ridings, nonetheless defections happen every election. I look more at overall trends in which way people are going, not each one individually. In 2004 many former PCs supported the Liberals and that election the Conservatives got 8% below the combined vote of the PC + Alliance
