Anti-abortion Conservative candidate called Obama worst U.S. president

http://bit.ly/hdaNyT

My sense is this is the sort of thing that makes Harper so concerned to muzzle his candidates. In fairness, some Liberal candidates have said some outstandingly stupid things. Still, it seems abortion remains a bubbling issue in the Conservative caucus.

JIM BRONSKILL
Ottawa - The Canadian Press

A Conservative candidate in the federal election says Barack Obama isn't just the worst president in the history of the United States — he's the biggest liar, too.

The reason is the president's stance on abortion.

Wally Daudrich, the Tory challenger in a northern Manitoba riding, posted his assessment of the U.S. president on his Facebook page over concerns about U.S. health-care legislation.

Mr. Daudrich's post, complete with spelling errors, said Obama had topped Jimmy Carter as the most inept U.S. leader ever and surpassed Richard Nixon as the biggest liar to occupy the Oval Office.

"Obama passes his pro abortion funding bill," Mr. Daudrich wrote on March 21, 2010. "No longer is Jimmy Carter the worst president that America has ever had. No longer is Richard Milhaus Nixon the biggest lieing president America has ever had."

By midday Saturday the post had been removed from his Facebook page.
The landmark heath-care reform bill — aimed at extending coverage to millions of uninsured Americans — outraged people on both sides of the abortion debate.

Mr. Obama signed an executive order that reaffirmed limits on federal funding for abortion in order to ensure passage of the bill. But some critics argued the legislation would open the door to more abortions.

...

Conservative party spokesman Fred Delorey had little to say about Mr. Daudrich's online posting.

A lot of people think that maybe, just maybe that 2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 month old "fetus" may be a actual human life.
A lot of those people are Liberals as well.

The Libs display stunning hypocrisy on this issue.

We have all lost count as to how many Libs insulted GW Bush but it is clear he is fair game. But if you say something bad about Obama....

The real problem is that there are a few Libs who are allowed to stay in the party that oppose abortion. The Libs should drop them as candidates. They won't.

As far as I know Canada is the only country in the world that has no laws on abortion.

Second or third trimester, gender selective, partial termination of multiple fetus pregnancy etc. is all permitted and all free.

The status quo is cowardly.I think you know that.

Only the NDP takes a view that all MP's must support curent abortion laws. I think they kicked out of caucus someone who did not.

This is being trundled out because the debates did not make this election a horse race. The polling must be poor for the Libs.

Cowardly is also posting anonymously & calling others cowards. Then again so is challenging your opponent to a debate and then chickening out the next day.

Is this another 'game changer'?

Seems to me the last time abortion was on the table in Canada,
was March 23, 2010,
a Liberal motion proposed by Bob Rae re:funding for 3rd world abortions,
and Liberal MPs voted down their own motion.
That would be because the LPC has 19 social conservative MPs.

Liberal motion defeated; no clarity on abortion

After the debates and Ignatiefs so so performance I read on many blogs to be prepared for the Libs to bring up Abortion and the Death Penalty...and, right on time....
Sooner or later, you guys gotta stop yelling Boo!!, not because it works, because I believe it costs votes, but, because you insult average right wing voters who would never stand for the reversal of either. Just sayin...

It's true their are anti-choice Liberals, but the difference is most Liberals aren't anti-choice. If they formed a majority government and allowed a backbencher to introduce an anti-choice bill it would be defeated. If the Conservative form a majority and Harper allows a backbencher to bring forth a bill, it would pass as most Con MPS are anti-choice, and from what I can see, don't like women much unless they are caregivers.

Hey Asshole?

Is he not allowed to say that?

62 percent of Americans don't want that health care law.

So shove it.

You my friend don't live in the real world.

You have never worked a day in your life.

So please bend over and shut the fuck up.

Certainly doesn't look good, mind you the Tories will probably come a distant third in this riding. So far all the controversial comments have been from candidates in ridings they stand no chance at winning thus my guess is when it comes to vetting candidates parties pay closer attention in competitive ridings than in one's where the candidate is a sacrificial lamb.

As for an abortion private members bill passing, I only think this is realistic if the Tories get over 180 seats which won't happen. Most of the pro-life Liberals were from rural Ontario which is now almost all Tory and would be if they got a majority. In 1987, most PCs supported Bill Domm's private members bill to reinstate capital punishment, but enough voted against it that when combined with the opposition it was defeated. In fact of Mulroney's English Canadian caucus, they voted just as heavily in favour of this bill as Harper's English Canadian caucus would. The big difference is Mulroney had 58 seats in Quebec where they overwhelmingly voted against it while Harper will get 11 seats there at most.
