Do you have any cultural groups that would like to participate by having someone at the event in an ethnic costume? We are seeking one or two people from your community.

In fairness, in the fog of a campaign, staffers do a great deal without any input from the candidate. A volunteer wants to organise an event -- great -- run with it.

Still, the concept is a problem -- let's have ethnics dress up for Stephen Harper and a photo op:

A Conservative candidate in the GTA is at the centre of a growing controversy after his office asked multicultural groups in the riding if they would like to wear "ethnic costumes" to a photo op with Stephen Harper.

The Star obtained an email sent by a campaign worker for Etobicoke Centre candidate Ted Opitz in which community groups are told Harper's visit to the riding Thursday night creates a photo opportunity.

"We … are trying to create a photo-op about all the multicultural groups that support Ted Opitz our local Conservative candidate and the Prime Minister," reads the email sent Tuesday night by Zeljko "Zed" Zidaric with the subject line: "Opportunity – Thursday night with the Prime Minister."

"The opportunity is to have up to 20 people in national folklore costumes which represent their ethnic backgrounds. These people will sit in front row behind the PM – great TV photo op (sic)."

The email continues: "We are seeking representation from the Arab community. Do you have any cultural groups that would like to participate by having someone at the event in an ethnic costume? We are seeking one or two people from your community."

Not as bad as Ignatieff granting a Sikh interview to somebody who praised the beating of Ujjal Dosanjh.

How is that even a comparison?

It's not as if Iggy's talking about making the guy a top governmental advisor (cough, Carson, cough). I'm sure if you look back at all the interviews Harper gives, you'll find that many of his interviewers have said things Harper would disagree with in the past. Wait, maybe not, Harper doesn't give many interviews, and especially not to people who disagree with his politics.

Honestly, what's next, are attacks going to start bringing out controversial histories of Iggy's facebook friends? Is that the best you've got on him?

Ignatieff got upset today because conservative underling mentioned costumes.

Then goes and grants an interview with a Sikh journalist who advocated terrorism and the beating of a Liberal MP.

Ignatieff has absolutely no compass.

This is actually a funny anecdote from a local campaign.
Should the Liberal leader get all upset about it?
No......it makes him look foolish ..its a minor detail.

He is behaving like Sarah Palin.

Ignatieff is the party leader, if he wants to become PM he must behave Prime Ministerial.
