Harper government can’t ignore NDP demands: Layton

Oh yes they can.

And they certainly will.

That's what a majority government means -- a solid majority really does reduce the opposition to mere rhetoric. The NDP can say anything at all and the government need pay no attention -- in fact, the NDP can't even fillibuster legislation.

Now in terms of pension reform it is unfortunate that the NDP position (which is more or less identical with the Liberal position) will be ignored. Pension and bankruptcy reform is needed.

Well, maybe in the next government.

"OTTAWA — Jack Layton warned Stephen Harper against thinking a Conservative majority government can ignore the demands of New Democrats and the people who voted for them, especially when it comes to pensions.

"Canadians elected more New Democrats than ever before, with a clear mandate to put hard-working families first and that's exactly what New Democrats will fight to do every single day," Layton said during his first big speech as official opposition leader in Vancouver on Wednesday, according to an advance copy of his notes.

"It's a mandate that Stephen Harper is best not to ignore," Layton said, according to an advance copy of his keynote address to the convention of the Canadian Labour Congress."

The NDP have three years to gain experience. All those young Quebecers will enrich the party and give it the power to win government. A new NDP is being born. What an amazing opportunity.

Jack Layton is delusional. The NDP are idealogical partisans. They are no better than the Conservatives, but on the other side.

On election night they cheered and celebrated. What? Hooray, we just elected a Reform majority government.
