Ignatieff to return to academia at University of Toronto

Good for Michael -- he's a good guy and a fine teacher -- I've seen him lecture and he is very engaging. U of T has done well.

OTTAWA—The Liberals' Michael Ignatieff, who announced Tuesday he was stepping down as his party's leader, will take up a prestigious teaching position at the University of Toronto.

The former journalist and Harvard lecturer is being appointed senior resident of Massey College, a position previously held by Pierre Trudeau, Liberal MP Bob Rae and former Reform leader Preston Manning.

"We are all very pleased that Michael Ignatieff has agreed to come to the University of Toronto," Massey College Master John Fraser said in a statement

He had no chance as a politican ... he was totally lacking any charisma.

Has Michael Ignatieff ever made a dollar in the private sector?

Or is he going to live on the dole his whole fucking life?

It's amazing how many people in politics have never earned a single penny in the private sector yet somehow find themselves millionaires in the public sector.

START THE REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anon,

He worked as a journalist and then a teacher for many years. Being an MP is hardly a restful life. As for being a millionaire I have no idea what his net worth is but whatever it is it was earned.

Morton, you are so out of touch.

A journalist is a job? Really?

A teacher?

No pressure jobs where you get tenure no matter how shitty you are?

Gimme a break.

Morton, you see those NDP MP's who are going to make 160 grand a year?

This country is a joke Morton and you know it.

Corrupt, sleazy, fixed, just about everything you don't want in a political system.

I have yet to get an answer to the following question.

WHO INVESTIGATES THE GOVERNMENT AND WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT NEVER INVESTIGATED?

WHY ARE NO HIGH PROFILE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN JAIL?

In the USA, government officials get locked up steady.

But never in Canada? Never?

What about the E-Health scandal?

Who investigates that?

Who represents the taxpayers when the Toronto Police get 11percent over 4 years?

Morton, who represents the taxpayers at the table?

Oh yes, those over-paid police who don't have a real job and spend their days relaxing. Who will save us form the millionaire cops!

First I heard him say after the election that he'd be happy to stay on then he's suddenly out with no leadership convention or discussions. Who made that decision?
Again, who really runs the Liberal party?

Actually Morton, the Toronto Police make more than the LAPD.

The Toronto Police are never killed(very, very, very rare), and when they are they're treated like National Heroes.

Police, Fire, Teachers, all government officials in the USA are paid less than half of what those same officials make here.

Look at what a Police Chief in Ontario makes.

More than the Police Chief of New York City.

Morton must believe that people who work for the government are ENTITLED to THREE times the average private sector wage.

Disgusting.

I bet Ignatieff is a good teacher, I wish him well. I am a conservative and my reasons for not voting liberal have nothing to do with Iggy, the liberal party itself needs to look inward and find what they stand for.

I'm glad our police make good incomes, USA cops get paid crap but that is their problem not ours. My father was O.P.P and we were not millionaires and lived a middle class life like everyone else, I had to work myslef if I wanted designer clothes etc. Police are not overpaid & Thank God they are rarely killed.

Politicians are overpaid, I can't believe these new mp's will make 160,000 a year, for what? They won't be ministers, they will be back benchers, I should have thrown my name in as a candidate for ndp had I known they could earn that kind of money with no credentials.

I felt genuinely bad for Ignatieff at the day after conference.

He did sound bitter at Harper though.
It was not needed to bring up the partisan contempt of Parliament charge after the election.....I think he lost it when he told the Star editorial board that "the Conservatives can go to hell"...he knew he was going to lose, and did not care any more.

Why shouldn't he be bitter at Harper. That cretin did nothing but slander Ignatieff for the past several years. Oh, and yes there he goes back to States....NOT
