Official Canadian Policy on Key Issues in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

This is the Official Government of Canada position last updated in March 2011. Has anyone read it recently? It does not seem very consistent with the Press Releases of the Harper Government:

It is pretty well Obama's speech. Especially note the contiguous Palestine. How do you do that without cutting Israel in two? What is amazing is all the Jewish groups in Canada who listened to Press Releases and didn't look at Official Statements. Harper is not an enemy of Israel but not friend either

Good catch.

In the long run, I do hope for a mutual agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians. The changing political situation in the Middle East may mean that the United States (Israel's biggest financial supporter) may not need Israel as much as it needs future democratic allies among the neighbouring Arab/Muslim countries.

In terms of Canasda, I view Harper's staunch support for Israel merely as a way to gain votes from selected cultural constiuencies--Jews and social conservatives. He has very little cultural understanding about Israelis in general and the Jewish community in Canada.

Another thing about Canada is that the demographics may change with the Muslim population increasing which the Jewish population remains stagnant. Contrary to far-right conservative thinking, I believe that most Muslims will blend in with other Canadians. Younger Muslim Canadian teens like listening to rap, hip-hop, and pop rock. They will like doing things that other young Canadians. Eventually, they will become attuned to the Canadian political system in terms of promoting causes effectively and participating within the various political institutions. I will give 15 years before demographic changes will strengthen Muslim Canadians and weaken Jewish Canadians.

Harper's home riding office is located very close to the Calgary JCC.
