Being tough means looking straight at something ugly, and saying, 'That's ugly; I'll have to find a way to deal with it'. And doing so.

The other day, when I was reading about the Conservatives convention policies up for adoption, this could have summed up my thoughts completely. Their treason policy, whereby your canadian citizenship is revoked if you are found guilty of treason, while looking tough, is just a case of "let someone else deal with it". Its mostly in reaction to the Khadr case, and it's the same reason I'm opposed to keeping Khadr at Gauntanamo. Whatever this guy did, he is Canadian, and as such, is our responsibility, not anyone else's. All these conservatives want to seem tough by not letting him come home. What do they think we look like to the US when we're afraid of a guy in shackles? We look callous and weak at the same time.

Callous and weak -- not a good combo
