Harper must act to keep the GM Plant in Oshawa

For a week or so we have heard rumours about GM closing or reducing production in Oshawa.

A little over a year ago Stephen Harper said "in the eye of a global economic storm, our government acted quickly and responsibly to protect Canadian jobs."

That was the right thing to do.

But now it seems GM has forgotten its moral responsibility to Oshawa (and Canada). Harper says he saved GM to protect Canadian jobs -- he should be reminding GM and safeguarding Canadian jobs.

Oshawa seems to be on the eve of destruction, I would guess its the high dollar.

Pretty thin gruel Morton. Why not explain GM's healthcare woes.

Maybe everone should be reminded that GM is after all, a US company.

Hypocritical, narrow-minded Canadians need a kick in the ass.

Hey, thank a union....

So if GM was hopeless, why spend so much money on it?

This is coming from me, a 32 year CAW member. Your title should read CAW Local 222 Head Buckley must act to keep GM in Oshawa.

Buckley seems determined to follow up and repeat his past mistakes. When Buckley declared the union had won the contract negotiations by not giving in to two-tiered wages for new hires, his usual followers cheered. That glee was short-lived as just weeks later GM announced the closing of the GM truck plant.

And now GM hires workers on a temp basis for a period of time at, wait for it, a lower wage. Now Buckley is screaming the $1.7 billion GM is offering is not enough for retirees health costs?

Have no worries. Obama and the UAW are quite happy to have those Oshawa jobs, and by the looks of Buckley's latest stance, more are headed south of the border.
