To my surprise that very suggestion was then made (granted obliquely) in the New York Times.
So I am clear -- we have enough "police actions". Another invasion (or whatever it is called) of another Muslim country is not a good idea.

Sometimes freedom has to be earned. Libya is a mistake, Syria would be a disaster.
America demonstrated the very real limits of Western power when it tried to conquer Iraq. Now, with American commanders fearing they'll have to fight their way back out of Iraq, with Afghanistan a quagmire and Libya's Gadaffi resisting NATO intervention, the West is all but toothless when it comes to Syria.
