Teen charged with First Degree Murder in death of York Region Police Officer

Presumably this is because the death of the officer took place while the officer was acting in the course of duty, while the youth was committing an indictable crime and in a context where it was reasonable to believe death could occur. I note, however, that the last similar case out of Newmarket (and one is too many) led to a manslaughter conviction

A 15-year-old boy is charged with first-degree murder in the death of York Regional Police Const. Garrett Styles.

The teen, described as a Huron Heights Secondary School student from the Mount Albert area, was arrested while in a hospital bed Tuesday night.

He's scheduled to appear in Newmarket court July 7.

No disrespect intended but an officer was also shot investigating a crack house in Linsday Ontario. Did you write about that one also?
The crack house was well known to police yet they somehow forgot to check the registry for firearms.
The officer is recovering but once again it shows the direct connection between illegal drugs and illegal firearms.
Seems like the police chiefs would be better off following that lead than some rusty old goose gun in some closet in Toronto.
