Whitby man jailed 4 months for Oshawa schoolyard attack on women

Carola Vyhnak Urban Affairs Reporter

A Whitby father of three will spend four months in jail for assaulting two women in a schoolyard brawl with homophobic overtones.

Mark Scott, 45, committed a “crime of violence” witnessed by numerous children and parents, Justice Katrina Mulligan said during sentencing in Oshawa court on Tuesday.

“Vulnerable victims have been deeply impacted and the incident has smudged an entire community,” she said as she handed down two concurrent sentences of four months each.

Scott was convicted of assault causing bodily harm three months ago for hitting same-sex partners Jane Currie, 39, and Anji Dimitriou, 33, at Oshawa’s Gordon B. Attersley Public School in November, 2008
