His grandfather Gilbert was a cabinet minister in the Unione Nationale government of Maurice Duplessis.
Finally, Layton is related to William Steeves, a Father of Confederation.

With all due respect for Mr Layton, he should be locked up for being caught naked in a rub-and-tug in Toronto.
I feel sorry for anyone with cancer, but I have no sympathy for anyone that is Above the Law.
Well, even if he was in a bawdy house the chances of being "locked up" were effectively nil. Besides, my own sense is that the whole thing is irrelevant now -- people are giving eulogies for Jack Layton because they see him as history. In that they may be surprised -- he has had several come-backs and I really hope he has another.
I wouldn't have became a MILLIONAIRE if I was caught in a rub-and-tug.
Jack Layton deserves no more sympathy than the poor people in hospitals dying right now from cancer without anyone by their side.
Jack Layton lost 4 elections and he is somehow regarded as a hero.
Canada is a joke. Our CULTURAL MARXIST soap opera needs to stop.

My heart does go out for Jack and Olivia, even if I am not NDP.
The crass, ugly, cruel comments I have read, absolutely sickens me. Good Grief!!! No-one deserves to die of cancer, and I don't care who they are.
As far as above the law. They must not know about BC. We have a two tier judicial system. One for corrupt, lying, thieving politicians, and the other law, is for the everyday citizens.
In all my many years, I have never seen Canada, in such a cesspool of corruption. This country has lost the respect of many, many other country's. Even as far away as Australia. There was an article on, how badly eroded democracy in Canada has become.
Other country's, do not like Harper. he is known as a petty gasbag, stubborn, arrogant and impossible to work with. I now am furious at myself, for being so stupid, as to vote for Harper. I am totally ashamed of him.
