Twelve people are dead after a First Air 737 crashed about five miles from the Resolute Bay airport Aug. 20., in one of the worst air disasters ever recorded in Nunavut.
In a news release, RCMP said the plane was a charter, identified as flight 6560, traveling from Yellowknife to Resolute Bay, with 15 people on board, including four crew members.
First Air said the plane, a 737-200, last made contact at 12:40 p.m. local time and crashed at 12:50 p.m. The airline said three injured survivors are being treated at Resolute Bay's health centre.

Lt. Cmdr. Albert Wong of the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, ON confirmed there was a plane down "within eyesight" of the runway and that personnel from the Canadian Forces are mounted a rescue operation, including search and rescue and medical assistance.
Soldiers are in the area for Operation Nanook, the military's annual arctic sovereignty exercise.
"We had some expertise there so we responded right away," Wong said.
About 400 armed forces personnel are already in the area to take part in Operation Nanook, the military's annual northern training exercise.

First Air released a statement confirming that one of its planes, registration number CGNWN, crashed approximately eight kilometres from the Resolute Bay airport.
The company added that the Transportation Safety Board has been notified.
