Hudak on downloading to municipalities

Perhaps it is a bit churlish to remember but ... Mr Hudak was there when everything was downloaded to the municipalities the first time:

LONDON, ONT.—Ontario mayors fear Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak will not honour the $1.5 billion uploading agreement between the province and municipalities if he becomes premier.

The Liberal government has been gradually taking provincial social program costs off city budgets to save them $1.5 billion by 2018.

When Hudak was asked at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario meeting in London Tuesday if there would be a "repeat performance" on downloading he said it wouldn't be part of the Tory plan.

But he wouldn't commit to honouring the full $1.5 billion agreement until 2018.

"The $1 billion that has been taken up to date, we'll honour that," he said. "Going forward, I want to be clear, I said we would increase spending on health care and education . . . But we do need to find two cents on the dollar to balance our books by 2017."

The lack of Hudak's uploading commitment had mayors from Mississauga to Ottawa worried.
