Pot growers face more jail than child molesters
This makes sense because why? Marijuana didn't seem to stop Tim Hudak succeeding -- my sense is all Canadians would rank growing pot below raping children in terms of seriousness of offence; I suppose deterrence might work better for grow ops than rape, but still there seems to be something very wrong here:

Its about CREATING crime not getting rid of it. They know this won't deter crime, but will sway stats to show an abundance of it. Privatized prisons will come next. Nice fat corporations that have lots of money to throw at politicians...

Will you demand much tougher sentences for rapists?
Potheads tend just to be stupid people. However,if you are growing 200+ plants there is a lot more going on than sitting in a basement worrying about the Dorito supply.
Tax evasion, hydro theft, drug dealing to children and even murder etc. All this so a few "progressives" can feel smug and righteous.
If you don't like the fact that rapists do less time then organized drug dealers demand the gov't get tougher on these scum.
I suspect though that some of you are more concerned about getting your "stash".
Perhaps pot growers should be prohibited from entering any area where flora and fauna may exist in a cultured setting. No trips to Buchart Gardens near Victoria. No shopping in the garden sections at Canadian Tire and the Home Depot. No entering flower shops. Give each convicted pot grower an ankle GPS braclet and have them pick weeds in chain gangs on the side of highways while they are incarcerated.

I certainly don't think 200 + plants is trivial. You might think it is cute to talk about Canadian Tire garden centers but I am pretty sure few of even your buddies want them around junior high schools.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these all areas which would no longer be an issue if it were legalized and regulated? If that were the case I could understand stiff penalties for those who chose to grow pot outside of a regulated industry, but at no point does the harm in the above statements come from use itself.
You can't regulate an industry like child porn/molestation. And both the offender/victim will suffer if an 'incident' were to occur.
Can't I just smoke my weed in peace?
Why not just stop smoking the stuff?

I soon won't be able to buy incandescent light bulbs. They can't stop me from buying some in Buffalo.

Why can't government just leave me alone?
I remind you that tobacco has been bungled by gov't. It is legal but the Gov't has sued the industry for billions. It kills thousands a year with its strong addictive poisons. There is a thriving black market feeding the stuff to kids. There is smuggling and tax evasion as well.
It is naive to think legalizing pot will prevent this activity from happening here.
