If the panda didn't have anything to hide then why did he evade the residents?

BEIJING - A panda scaled a fence, hopped roof-to-roof, swam in a river and napped in a tree before its city adventure ended.

The panda led residents of Dujiangyan in southwest China on a long chase after wandering into the town from the wild and spending the day there, the Xinhua News Agency said.

The saga began Saturday when the endangered animal climbed over a fence and made its way into a housing estate. Residents tried chasing it down after realizing it was a panda, but it evaded them, running over rooftops, climbing over another gate and paddling in a nearby river before hunkering down for the night in a tree.
