Mayor Ford and the 911 Calls

If I were Rob Ford I would apologize as soon as the dispatchers apologise for 'discussing a 911 call' they are bound not to discuss. (In fairness to Ford he was accosted by strange and aggressive people -- he was perfectly entitled to be scared and to call for help -- and when you are afraid sometimes you say things you should not say):
Toronto's 911 dispatchers say Mayor Rob Ford insulted and swore at them during an emergency call he made Monday morning after a crew from CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutesambushed him in his driveway.

Several police sources tell CBC News that Mayor Rob Ford asked for police assistance but became agitated as he waited, and called back to ask when officers would arrive. (Canadian Press)Ford called for police assistance when Mary Walsh, part of the CBC-TV comedy show, approached him in his driveway dressed as the character Marg Delahunty, with cameras rolling.

Ford called 911 twice: once to asked for police and again to ask how long they would take to get there.

Sources say Ford turned on the dispatcher, yelling: "You ... bitches! Don't you f--king know? I'm Rob f--king Ford, the mayor of this city!"

Rob for is the Mayor of the largest City in Canada, surely there is room in the gravy budget to provide an armed (police) driver to prevent silliness like this from happening again.

Unfortunately, like most bullies, Mr. Ford depends upon his own threat of power and abuse to control others. And like most bullies, it doesn't take much to scare Mr. Ford. Take him out of his safety zone and he becomes a simpering, whimpering, little child. And like a child, when people don't immediately respond to even his unreasonable needs, he becomes mean and abusive.

Come on. Entitled to be scared of Mary Walsh? Please. Did Ford have a right to call the police. Of course, someone was trespassing on his property. Should he have called 911? No way, that is for emergencies, clearly this was not an emergency. Should he have yelled at dispatchers and tried to use his office to get fast service for a non-emergency? Let's ask someone who legitimately needed emergency services that morning.

Ford has been treated like dirt by the media and has probably launched a lawsuit against a paper that accused him of assaulting a minor.(That minor denied the claim)

He has been ridiculed for his weight and received death threats.

kirby does not know what a bully is.

Could you imagine a Toronto magizine call Horwath a "Fat fuck"?

My dear anonymous, you scold so boldly, with assumptions so broad. My my.

All one really needs to understand is that you reap what you sow. Ford's abusive behaviour is simply returning to him in kind, as is often does with bullies, particularly in the public eye.

And he will fall, just like most such men who attempt to use their abusive power in a public job. It happened to O'Brian and it will happen to Ford.

Walsh did cross a bit of a line, and it was clearly harrassment.

But if you watch the video, you can clearly see that Ford knew who he was dealing with and he was not scared, he was pissed. He plays along for a bit and then stomps off in an annoyed huff.

So far, I'm on his side.

But he stomps off in a huff and then calls 9-1-1 as though this was an emergency and he was under threat or there was some crisis. There wasn't.

He lost me there.

And now we hear about how he treated the emergency service providers. It goes beyond "entitled to his entitlements".

An apology doesn't nearly cut it, but a resignation (or a call for it) is way over the top. So we're stuck with a problem without a solution.

At least until 2014.

Sheesh! Such a response from a minor human interest story!!!

Dear Anonymous, Indeed. Such things are not isolated to one party or group. But in recent years each new group or party takes it to new heights. And if someone doesn't understand that Mr. Ford is an ignorant, petty, self-absorbed, bigoted, bully of a man, then they just aren't paying attention.
