Christopher Hitchens dies

A curious intellectual, Hitchens was a non-believer in God who believed in the power of military force. Regardless, his writing was powerful and while I often (usually) disagreed I always found his thoughts thought provoking. Rest in peace:

Hitchens was the poster boy for the old adage about the youth and the the left growing up into ripe old conservatism. All it takes is a realistic view of the world. The man was despised by people whom I'm sure he was proud to be despised by.

People who believe in a God that does not exist always don't like people who say there is no such thing.

Anon - Agreed. I think it is being atheist or agnostic is challenging even frightening. Religion, on the other hand, provides comforting 'certainty'. Believers create psychological defence mechanisms that makes them resistant arguments to avoid the dissonance that doubt creates.
