Conservatives building an Office of Religious Freedom

I agree with Michael Ignatieff on this:

"It's a good thing provided it defends all cases of religious persecution, not just those that are bothering domestic constituencies at home, and that it doesn't ignore other human-rights violations, which usually accompany religious persecution, like limits on freedom of the press, denial of democratic rights and persecution."

..except that those comments are from a 'liberal' frame of reference, and this department is being established by 'christian fundamentalists'--absolutely certain that is not the way it will function

Michael who?

I wonder what will be the first example of this "office" being used as a cudgel against the LGBTQ community.

RualRoots.....christian fundamentalists also exist in the Roman Catholic Church.

"the LGBTQ community"?????

Are you referring to a "people" who believe they are "special" because they are homosexual?

Homosexuals are one percent of the population if that....

How did they become so powerful in Canadian politics and the institutions.

We now have homosexuality being taught to 3 years old kids.

When the next revolution starts, all the Marxist homosexuals will be the first to go.

Who do these "weirdos" think they are?

Why the scare quotes around the word people?

who believe they are "special" because they are homosexual?

No, I mean the people who are held out for vilification, ridicule, and attacks both political, and physical, because some people beleive we aren't as good as them.

Homosexuals are one percent of the population if that....

So because we're not the majority, we deserve to be treated as less, or unequal to the majority?

How did they become so powerful in Canadian politics and the institutions.

Oh I agree! That gay PM, and his gay cabinet; all those gay newspaper editors, and TV news pundits. That gay ol' GG!

We now have homosexuality being taught to 3 years old kids.

Citation, please.

When the next revolution starts, all the Marxist homosexuals will be the first to go.

I hope you come knocking on my door first. I'll be sure to answer it with my Mossberg 500 Persuader.

Who do these "weirdos" think they are?

Law abiding, tax paying Canadian citizens. Or people.

Why do you need an office for freedom of religion separate from offices that safeguard other human rights? Will there be an office for freedom of thought, one for freedom of expression, one for freedom of assembly, for freedom of movement, separate ones for each of the rights? Or is this a way to protect only selected human rights?

Maybe this explains why buses, and some community centres, in Calgary only had "Merry Christmas" on their signs this year instead of the usual "Happy Holidays" - even though Calgary is a large, multicultural city and its mayor is Muslim.

I really do hope the Conservatives won't use this Office as a source of excuses to attack other countries (literally).
