Mitt's problem? Bigotry

Why is Mitt Romney facing such an uphill battle again GOP candidates who would self-evidently give President Obama a second term?

Bigotry.

Romney was born and remains a Mormon.

His religion (like every other I have ever heard of) had some highly problematic doctrines and behaviors in its development.

But that was then and this is now.

Today members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints follow a religion that promotes social conservative behavior with charitable works and obedience to the law. Faithful Mormons are admirable citizens and highly productive members of society.

I don't agree with LDS doctrines, but I don't agree with the doctrines of most religions -- and that doesn't mean I would not vote for, say, a Baptist because I disagree with believer's baptism and immersion.

Almost everyone belongs to the religion they were brought up in (or married into). Very few people choose a religion. As a result a person's religion is, like their eye colour, a characteristic inherent in the person. While I have no reason to doubt the sincerity of Romney's faith, if his parents had been, say, Copts he would presumably be a faithful Coptic Christian today.

My point is just this. Romney is being judged on his religion. That's wrong. He should be judged on his behavior or politics.

But he's being judged on religion. And if he is finally found lacking, we'll see a two term President Obama:

World - The Globe and Mail http://bit.ly/A0tZLE

"As for Mr. Romney, Mr. Plonk said he considered him a "very, very honest, upstanding and dependable person." But his religion is a deal-breaker. "As a conservative Christian, we strongly feel the Mormons are misguided in their teachings.""

Don't most people take into consideration their doctrines when it comes to how they conduct themselves even politically? Decisions such as abortion or no abortion? Most people are biased when it comes to their religious belief on issues as to women's rights for example. There are people who take literally what it says in the bible regarding gays.

"Bigotry"?

Where is the evidence for such a harsh charge? I am confused.
