Sad news: Strachan Heighington Q C has died

I just learned today of the passing of a truly learned and honourable man -- he will be missed. One can only hope to live a life as his:

STRACHAN HEIGHINGTON Q. C.
December 17, 1927 to January 9th, 2012

Peacefully at home on Monday, January 9th after a short illness, his loving wife of 60 years Mary (Noble) at his side.

Strachan lived an active, happy life including his recent 84th birthday, then a joyful Christmas surrounded by family. Strachan's life was inspired by his love for Mary, and his passion for law, politics, tennis, poetry, music & family. He was the adored father of Ted (Marilyn De Mara), Douglas, Robert (Ellen Thuringer), Martha (Geoffrey Wilson) and Andrew (Michelle). Much loved 'Ho-Ho', and cherished grandfather to 10 grandchildren: Meredith (Corbin Miller), Jennifer, Geoffrey, Harry, Tillie, Strachan, Harris, Cecily, Palmer & Tristan.

Predeceased by his parents, Wilfrid & Alice Heighington, also by his sisters Patricia (Owen- Irwin) and Cynthia (Dickie). Graduated from Ridley College, University of Toronto & Osgoode Law School. After retiring as a partner at Blakes, Strachan worked in retirement at the Superior Court of Justice as an Assessment Officer.

Strachan also enjoyed his service and friendships as a Major with the 48th Highlanders of Canada. A tribute to Strachan's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18th, 2012 at CHRIST CHURCH, DEER PARK, 1570 Yonge St. (at Heath St. W.). A private family cremation service will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
