A former Connecticut police captain who pleaded guilty in a child pornography case has told a judge that he lost his way and "spiraled out of control."
David Bourque's comments came Friday during his sentencing in Hartford federal court. A judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Bourque had more than 26,000 images of child pornography on his computers. Authorities call it one of the largest collections they've seen in the state.
Bourque resigned last year as a captain in Granby. He said he viewed the images but never did anything to children himself.
A prosecutor said Bourque's downloading and sharing of child porn were horrible, and victims in the images are victimized again every time they're watched.
Peel Region Police say they are conducting an internal investigation after a judge’s damning words about the “reprehensible” conduct of members of their drug squad. But critics are skeptical anything will be done.
“The police lied under oath in order to cover up (an) illegal search and persisted in their lying when confronted with the most damning of evidence. All these misdeeds were calculated, deliberate and utterly avoidable,” Superior Court Justice Deena Baltman said Friday in a Brampton courtroom, reading out her reasons for sparing a baby-faced cocaine dealer a prison sentence.
