So what is parliament to do when it disagrees with the discretion judges use? Is not the law in the hands of parliament, and if parliament decides that sentences must be longer aren't judges obligated to enforce the law as parliament writes it? If mandatory minimums are ruled unconstitutional by the same judges that made them necessary why do we even bother with elections?
