So let's get the gun enthusiasts to protect the Internet???

"Bernardo says scrapping the long-gun registry is already a “defining moment” in Canadian people power.

“What you’re seeing here, this is democracy in action at its finest,” he said. “Millions of people spoke up and said we don’t want this, and the government responded and now it’s gone.”"

It didn't have to be this way. The supporters of the registry should have demanded that the previous gov't run it efficiently.

Needless to say, they'll deny this argument.

Enjoy the wilderness....

Sounds like a GREAT idea!! It's gotta work better than the registry ever did. I mean, you don't actually believe that it is accurate, do you? For your sake, I sure hope not, lol! FWIW, the "short gun" restricted weapons registry isn't any more accurate either, but if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy, then you just go on believing otherwise.

Here's some more great ideas:

Protect the internet with

a) Canadian enthusiasts
b) Democracy enthusiasts

Mr. Morton, I'd invite you to join the board at canadiangunnutz.com and see exactly how firearm enthusiasts are reacting to the new Internet surveillance bill (you don't have to be a gun nut but a polite respect for the views of gun owners would be good).

You are known on those boards from your defense of the fellow in Nunavut. Some also know of your Liberal ties but don't let the fringe bother you too much. I think you would find there are some every interesting legal threads there and I think a Liberal lawyer like yourself might get a better understanding of gun owners' beefs with the law if you read the legalese section.

Maybe I'll see you there...

Let me be the first conservative to come here and tell you how many of us do NOT support this new internet legislation...and, ironically, for much the same reasons as the gun registration fiasco: because we just can't trust the police anymore. We want to, but we can't. They don't have our best interests at heart.

They would misuse this new law just as they have misused the gun registry to confiscate our legally owned, properly registered firearms WITHOUT COMPENSATION (and for no other reason than the 'scary appearance' of certain guns).

Not to rub it in, but if the Liberals had come out with a strongly pro-Internet policy during the election, it would not be a third place party today.

But it didn't.

Actually Rat I have no difficulty with gun owners and rights -- my point wasn't to say bad things about gun owners but rather the suggest the current government is inconsistent with their positions! I will go to gunnutz now and may well join

Of course they are inconsistent. Frankly, Vic Toews is an ass and he should be sent back to the farm. Us gun owners are pissed at the responses his office is giving regarding the RCMP's last gasp at gun banning before the LGR goes. Vic seems to be the driving force behind this Internet bill and the Conservative base is not happy with it.
