This is a weird story -- but even if true I can't see what the claim is: being rude? napping inappropriately? Seriously, even a slander claim sounds thin:

The dispute between a Canadian veteran and a Calgary MP could be headed to court.
An Ottawa law firm has offered free services to Jim Lowther, a veteran who expressed disappointment with MP Rob Anders, who Lowther said fell asleep during a meeting with his organization and later called him and his associates "NDP hacks."
Last week members of the Veterans Affairs committee met in Halifax with representatives of the non-profit organization Veterans Emergency Transition Services (V.E.T.S.), which helps homeless veterans off the streets.
Lowther, V.E.T.S. president, said the Calgary West MP fell asleep during the meeting, though Anders denied it, saying the claim was politically motivated and Lowther has been linked with NDP Veterans Affairs critic Peter Stoffer.
Lowther said Anders also called him a supporter of "Vladmir Putin and the communist party."
Though V.E.T.S. is an apolitical organization, Lowther said both he and his organization's policy and communications director are card-carrying Conservatives.
Anders Friday released a statement saying: "I have enormous respect for the men and women who have sacrificed in service of their country.
"I apologize for my comments and any offence they may have caused. I will continue to work on behalf of Canada's veterans through the committee."
Anders did not return calls for comment Monday.

I think the bigger issue is that he responded by calling the complaining parties NDP hacks and Putin sympathizers, instead of just saying "my bad. So sorry.". This is the Harperite way - respond to all criticism by lashing out at the critic while never actually addressing the underlying issue.
