Possibility of a brokered convention looms large over tight Republican race

I'm not sure why Americans are so negative about a Convention that actually chooses the candidate.

We almost always have that in Canada -- and it tends to be a good thing.

When my Party last had a Convention that merely confirmed the nominee for Leader the result was, errh, shall we say ... unfortunate.

Now, I must say I am not sure the Republicans are helping themselves much with the type of campaign they are running but gosh a real Convention isn't necessarily a bad thing:

As Republicans stumble through a long campaign of internal fighting and bitter feelings to find a presidential candidate, another hurdle now looms that could damage a dream of White House occupancy: a brokered convention.

Newt Gingrich is banking on it, Ron Paul is hoping for it, and Rick Santorum doesn't think it would do any harm.

Of all the Republican candidates, only frontrunner Mitt Romney — not surprisingly — believes it would be a disaster.

We're not. That's what I want.
