LONDON, ONT.— Science took centre stage at theTori Stafford murder trial Wednesday as the Crown presented, perhaps, the single most important piece of evidence in the case: a mixed sample of DNA found from Michael Rafferty's blue and green Goodlife Fitness gym bag.
Blood stains on the bottom surface of the bag were determined to be a mix of DNA from three people, two of those nearly certainly Rafferty and Tori, said a scientist with the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto.

Between 1976 and 2005, African-Americans, 12.6% of the population in the last census, committed 52.2% of all homicides.
That is, over the 30-year period, African-Americans committed murder at about 7.33 times the white rate. (Whites here include Hispanics.)
Of homicides committed by strangers, on average, 18.77% involved blacks killing whites, while in 5.08% of the cases, whites killed blacks. African-Americans were therefore nearly 3.7 times more likely to kill a white than a white to kill a black
To provide some raw numbers, in 2005, the last year for which the DOJ statistics are available, 10,285 African-Americans committed murders. As 8.8% of these were "black on white," there were, assuming only one death per murderer, 905 whites killed, almost 2.5 per day. In the same year, again assuming one killing per perpetrator, 267 blacks were murdered by whites (3.2% of 8,350 killings).
Crime is a young man's métier. The vast majority of the 52.2% of U.S. murders committed by African-Americans are the work of the roughly 2% of the population who are black males between the ages of 15 and 25.

These figures may be misleading in implication due to selection effects. Consider:

There are more whites than blacks in America. Assume one in 4 Americans are black (too high but good for the math) So, let us say a typical killer kills 4 people (wrong but again makes the math easy). If a black killer is colour blind that killer will kill 3 whites for every black. If a white killer is colour blind that killer will kill only one black for every three whites. So the rate of blacks who kill whites will be vastly higher than that of whites killing blacks simply because of the relative population sizes. The actual situation is far more complex, and factors of poverty (which has a major impact on crime rates) societal mixing (few are truly colour blind) etc must be considered, but my point remains.
