"A Postmedia News analysis found that about a quarter of Conservative candidates defeated in the 2011 election — 35 of the 141 who lost — landed plum appointments in the Prime Minister's Office, Health Canada, ministers' officers and on boards or agencies.

About three-quarters of those hired ran and lost in Quebec. Four landed appointments to the Senate; two others, including former foreign affairs minister Lawrence Cannon, landed diplomatic posts in France."
