Remember Tommy Douglas was an Ordained Minister

A 'criminal's' mug shot -- King was
more than just words

People of faith perform corporal works of mercy.  Remember that next time someone suggests otherwise -- people of faith can be liberals and care about liberal values:

"Preaching on Matthew 25, Martin Luther King spoke in blunt language about those who claim to be Christians but do not feed the poor, or clothe the naked, or visit the sick.

“The Lord will say to them: ‘Get out of my face!’ ” preached King. Remember that next time someone tries to make King into a milquetoast clergyperson urging everyone just to get along."

It surprises me that Harper and the Reformers, a large base of which is purportedly fundamentalist Christian, ignore the teachings of Christ.

GREAT post James! People often forget the KEY position religious groups had in civil rights, and the other struggles of the 60s and 70s.

Today, religious NGOs are responsible for amazing charity work worldwide. It is these very charities that the NeoCons are squeezing out with their "targeted cuts".

We - as a party - need to continue to work with these groups, and grow our involvement there, at a volunteer level. I know our family is, here in the Lower Mainland. We're also bringing out some liberal speakers to help create awareness of politics within the group...

Western and Anon - I totally agree - real Christians remember the basis of their faith... but sometimes people who purport to be Christian and not really followers of Jesus...

Matthew 7:21-23
True and False Disciples

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

It's rather funny how those who despise Christian teachings are often the same ones demanding the charity and works from Christians. I would suggest there's a hell of a lot more to being Christian than what the average progressive would like. You know, things like morality, the ten commandments. Progressives just want the charity, which pretty much sums up them up.

Lol . . . The Rat (A fitting name) demonstrates quickly how desperate some people are to take attention away from the aspect of Christianity that makes us all responsible for each other! By the way Rat, the "morality" that you mention is integral to how we treat others. Of course, all religions involve complex doctrinal issues, but at the core of all of them is our responsibility for our fellow creatures.

As long as someone is hungry I cannot be satisfied. As long as one person is poor I can never truly enjoy prosperity. As long one person suffers under the yoke of tyranny I cannot be free.
