Police say RCMP officers in Kimmirut — about 120 kilometres from Iqaluit — were woken at 2 a.m. Saturday by an intoxicated woman banging on the door of one officer’s residence. She told them they were in danger.
The police took her to the community’s detachment building. While they were inside, a male suspect shot multiple rounds at the detachment, which struck the building and the police truck.
According to RCMP, about 10 residents of the community made a citizen’s arrest of the suspect, risking their own lives to assist the officers. The group apprehended the suspect and secured his firearm until the Emergency Response Team arrived from Iqaluit.
