“It seems to me, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

All Parties have their problem members.  Story here  That said, this story is an embarrassment for legitimate conservatives.

Candidly it is astonishing that anyone running for a significant office in the United States could be so ignorant of, well, how babies are made. (see here for those who have any doubts: yes, rape can make you pregnant

One interesting sidebar from the story is the concession from the Romney campaign that abortion is, at least in some circumstances, legitimate:

Akin's comments also brought a swift rebuke from the campaign of presumptive Republcan presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.

Romney and Ryan “disagree with Mr. Akin's statement, and a Romney-Ryan administration would not oppose abortion in instances of rape,” Romney spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said.

Romney went further in an interview with National Review Online, calling Akin's comments “insulting, inexcusable and frankly wrong.” “Like millions of other Americans, we found them to be offensive,” Romney said.

Why does this "astonish" you, James?

I don't know why the media and others give these 'bozos' the time of day?

"The decision is everything about being "conservative" - it will save money as opposed to delivering babies through overpaid doctors."

I mean every time Romney and Ryan and their crowd speak they have to do damage control. btw/ isn't that why Harper keeps such a tight rein on his people? They're all Neanderthals. There is no denying this fact.

"I do not know which makes a man more conservative — to know nothing but the present, or nothing but the past."

This is almost as bad as a sitting president not understanding that fellatio is a sex act.

Republicans are lining up urging him to quit.. He apologized profusely on Hannity this afternoon and even Hannity still told him to quit. He made dumb stupid remarks on rape. Meanwhile a former President was accused of rape and given a complete pass.
If only Democrats had the courage to tell Biden to quit after accusing Romney of wanting to return America to slavery. He got a media pass.

I have no doubt republicans would would bring back slavery, if they could get away with it. And I won't waste time on right wingers, explaining Biden's quote in context.

Nice try, Rotterdam. You find Biden's remarks offensive, do you? You don't seem troubled by the Romney campaign's chronic race-baiting though, do you? Sorry but you're backing the party of cranks and loose-thinkers.
