Imam denies tampering with evidence in Pakistan blasphemy case

This is terribly convenient. If the charge is bogus then all the pressure on Pakistan goes and the dreadful law stays. Somehow I doubt the Imam desecrated the Quran simply to set up a young Christian girl. Now, I very much doubt she burned any Holy Writings but that does not mean she was set up.

Also, before we feel too superior remember blasphemous libel is an indictable offence under the Criminal Code of Canada punishable with imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years - the punishment is not death but it's real nevertheless.

Sorry James but that's a bogus statement and you know it. Our blasphemous libel offence is a relic that hasn't been used in years and that is unconstitutional beyond a shaddow of a doubt. I don't normally recommend acting "superior" but I think we can be pretty proud vis a vis Pakistan on this issue.

I agree our section is a relic -- but it's there and shouldn't be. And trust me, one day someone will try to use it because their founder was defamed...
