There is a method here -- it is not merely being churlish

Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence says she won't attend Friday's "working meeting" between First Nations chiefs and Prime Minister Stephen Harper, because the presence of Gov. Gen. David Johnston is "integral" and he won't be there.

"We have sent a letter to Buckingham Palace and requesting that Queen Elizabeth II send forth her representative which is the Governor General of Canada," Spence said in a release. "I will not be attending Friday's meeting with the prime minister, as the Governor General's attendance is integral when discussing inherent and treaty rights."

This is beyond a farce.

She apparently also wanted Dalton McGuinty to attend!?

Those who supported her look very foolish.

The treaties were signed by the Crown and the First Nations. Since the treaties are supposed to be a topic of discussion at the meeting, then requesting that the Governor General be present seems reasonable.

But, let's face it. Harper, the former Imperial Oil mail room clerk and son of an Imperial Oil accountant, has no interest in protecting the rights of First Nation's or their treaties. Quite the contrary, it appears.

Bill C-45 is an attempt to begin the assimilation of the First Nations, to steal their land and eliminate environmental protections of First Nation's territory that would impede resource extraction corporations (notably oil corporations) from maximising their profits.

The Harper Government is attempting to enact legislation in C-45 that would allow this denial of rights, environmental degradation and land theft, without consulting the First Nations (or anyone else) when, inf fact, they are obliged to consult the First Nations as a matter of law.

The Harper Government is flouting Canadian law and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The First Nations are standing up for their rights. And the rights of all Canadians.

The status quo guarantees continued squalor for current and future native children. The teatise are racist and those who support them are equally so.

How much better can this get now for Mr Harper? Ms Spence has turned what should have been a showdown into a farcical circus. She wants policy change and wants a person who under Canadian law is not permitted to mold or change policy. This was bizarre a week ago, now its just down right insanity. She got greedy.

It wasn't just greed. She was egged on by some idiots at the Liberal party among others. It blew up in their face.

No it's not just churlishness is it? Nation to Nation.. Sovereign to Sovereign meeting. Not sure if it means anything beyond the symbolism. I guess it could be deemed a re-affirmation of the sovereignty of First Nations

) the report stipulates that electrical energy accounts for 44 percent of the total water production costs of a typical membrane seawater desalination. If these procedures are not followed, indoor air quality could pose a health concern both for the carpet cleaner and those at the
residence or business. Water is one of our most if not the most
precious commodity that we have.
