Whe nI think of role models I think of Pearson, Currie, Banting, Stephenson, Chretein. CD Howe wasn't born in Canada...maybe P.Trudeau. You have one from Wpg, one from TO, two from SW Ontario, one from Mtl, one from Chicoutami...this is the living breathing heart of Canada. I wondered why Mansbridge called Wpg a great city, but just by having their team names, is a cue to learn your history. Wpg was the 3rd largest city in 1921 and whatever good was created in human capital then, is latent for a very long time. From Headingley to somewhere in Quebec, maybe to the coal NB border; that territory will always be a positive influence on the world (and never AGW it). There other areas can come along for the ride but you get things like Neoconservatism hijacking the country for a few Bible chapters.
I'd be *very* interested to know just where the other post-modern areas are in the world. These subregions should be evelated in power as they will bring about a stable utopia or benevolent Universal Empire or something in between, if we succeed. Just getting to existing tech level is not enough over the long-term and market forces keep people dumb in the wrong engineering aptitudes.
The Bible isn't enough to reason how to keep peace order and good gvmt. It is this world that matter in a future technological society; rebuilding using The Bible might not work given future tyrannies and/or WMDs. Wpg to somewhere in Quebec, is humanist. Where else?

Scotland (UK) was like the Ionian city states; hard to conquer via geography. It had a head-start on public education thx to the Stuarts and developed a book culture. Probably when the enlightment elevated reason in the 18th century and demoted religion, The Scottish version was for using reason to serve human Q-of-L because not constantly warring; incurring collective PTSD. Then Scots exported to Commonwealth and USA. Whereas the continent just kept building technologies (reason). I'd guess West of Wpg you get free energy that is exportable and ruins the work ethic. The Maritimes didn't leave seasonal work? The hydro power of Wpg isn't exportable; so you have to earn your living (as a society with progressive taxes for example) and can't become too Christian like in AB.
Modernism was a response to WWI and the continental enlightenment that failed to use reason (technology) to serve Q-of-L. It turned into Googie art. But the USA fought the Cold War, and got PTSD along with rich people getting rewarded just like AB, for doing nothing (flatter taxes had the same affect as easy petro).
So they killing Googie architecture. This bad as we were already on an unstable trajectory (WW3 for example) and had no choice to go forward. The discovery of AGW made things even more dire and more urgent; we basically need to advance the right technologies and education while stopping or turning back the threats, at least once. So we need some stability to figure out how to do this properly: laws (and enforcement).
I loved the Skeleton Dance (1929) as a kid: a celebration of a Scottish holiday. We'll get our technologies enough to survive without the Sun, without causing a tyranny or extinction. We'll build longevity without bioincidents. I have no clue whether to MAD aliens. That ultimately determines how conservative we should be; and therein lies the art and law.

Good Will is formed by a fed and educated upbringing free of mental illness, and with the hope of a happy life for your children. Orange County had it, so did Scotland, so does Boston, so does Wpg to somewhere in Quebec.
As the technological solution to natural, human tech and alien tech, problem become more dangerous, wiser uses of industry/technology/education are required. Getting the Christians off of oil is the easiest hurdle here: they are morons. The future is googie.

And, Selane, I would assume Denver and SJ? Vancouver fails on mental illness. I personally find the mentally ill fruitcakes rupulsive. I wonder why the Meritimes failed over the 20th century? Generating mentally healthy, educated (sry Bible thumping South USA and Western Canada), nurished humans, is better than AI or some sort of alternate brain, management, of the future technologies we will need.
