Simultaneous translation inadequate for bilingual jury trials

R v Gagnon 2013 QCCA 1744. Serious implications especially in Quebec and Nunavut.

Yes, indeed. When I was in the military a long time ago we were told that charges could be handled either in a summary trial or court martial. If you chose court martial you had a good chance of getting the charges dropped for minor offences because convening the proper panel was a huge pain in the ass. Seems this is the same, writ larger. Ask for a trial in French in Alberta, get off charges. And how long until this is extended to non-official languages?
