One reason why the Court works so well as a check on power is Judges tend to be well-read. UK Common Law's era was relatively free from tyranny and war in the 13th and 14th century. It isn't perfect: Judge's plainly stated they expected to be purged by Stalin, a year before it happened. Id like to see a similar check be implemented before biolab and AI sensors are in our homes. Probably just having Columbia's curriculum would help. Something like our Senate is the perfect check on power. They would need to be selected based upon education and life experiences/jobs. The PM would select the best officials who would select the Senator, probably.
