Listening to the CBC Munk lectures rebroadcast about the Magna Carta. Their content would've been good for me until I read Chomsky in my early 20s. They correctly noted the USA political system permits wedge issues. But more important than the whole content of the lectures would've been noting prisoners can't vote in the USA, and they can in Canada. I guess I'll find out on my own how they lost this right and if they ever had it. The Party that favours their rich has a strong incentive to arrest poor people. The CBC interviewed a police officer after the latest shooting (in AB). He narrowly defined people into law abiders and law breakers. The anarchist was a law breaker. Even though he didn't live in a soddy or smelt his own guns, the cop figured he would only buy an illegal gun... If someone has $500 to spend on a gun, and an illegal gun costs $400 and a legal one $500, he will probably buy the legal gun. If under a gun registry, the illegal one now costs $750 and the legal one $500, he will buy the legal one. The Toronto carding would be fine if it were a social worker or community health nurse, and no ID necessary, but hassling people for their papers is what the Nazis did. I understand after the group of 18, I wonder if they were any of my friendly co-workers, if Toronto follows people around.
