John Ibbitson says Liberals don’t stand for anything.
Rubbish.
The Liberal Party has careful and thoughtful policies on all the issues facing Canadians today. What’s more, the Liberal Party is holding a major thinkers conference in January that will call on the best Canadian minds, regardless of Party affiliation, to focus on how Canada can be made better for the long term.
It is true that the Liberal message needs some work in being articulated to Canadians. Making complex policies clear is not easy. That’s a task that Liberals will fulfill in the months ahead.
Canadians will face a real choice in the next election. Stay tuned.

No election for a year.
Look at the CP report on what Donolo is doing.
Ibbitson's a goof.
So you're saying they WILL have some policies come some time in 2010.
Since 2006 and the Liberal lost power what specific Policy did they propose during opposition days?
"Needs some work..."? The Libs already have lots of policies, even if they do sound like Harper's. We abandoned our even-handedness on Gaza. We've embraced the Tar Sands as the key to Canada's economic future in the 21st Century. We've heralded bitumen as a key to national unity. We've dismissed carbon taxes as a discredited idea.
What the LPC needs is to ditch the neo-conservative ideology of its leader. Ask yourself this. Who is more liberal, BC Liberal leader Gordon Campbell or Canadian Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff? Full points if you said "neither."
I agree with Mound of Sound. A besides, we have a Seinfeld convention instead of engaging in renewing the party and then Ignatieff calls an invitation only thinkers conference to develop new policy. Whose party is this? The grass roots or Toronto elites?
About a year ago the Libs presented to Canadians a Liberal led coalition. Within days of that announcement that same Lib party turfed their leader.
How can this be interpreted as anything other than a desperate attempt at seizing power?
There was no interest in policy. When the attempt appeared to fail the Libs coronated a new leader without debate.
Stay tuned for what?
The Libs have already stated they have lost confidence in the gov't.They were trying to force an election long before the "thinkers conference" was hatched.
The Thinkers conference will be a closed door meeting with the new backroom boys. There will be no input from the base.
The 23% numbers support the view that Liberals are twisting in the wind right now.
Far and Wide is dissing Ms. Kreiber's comments as just sour grapes. And that the simple truth is the public didn't cotton on to Dion. What's left out is that the general public doesn't cotton on to Iggy either. He's unelectable!
Don't worry about what Far and Wide writes, he has about as much political sense as Ignatieff.
"Stay tuned"?
That sounds as empty and hollow as 'Wait and See.'
at least with Dion we knew what he stood for and what his policies were. Since Ignatieffs seizure of the OLO I don't know any of his policies...what does he stand for? It is this and many reasons why people like me will no longer support this party.
Not so fast with the January; it's now March 26-28.
Apparently, the best Canadian minds have a fairly open calender. They seem to be available whenever.
I think the understanding is that, although the Liberals have a published policy, actual Liberal policy will be whatever it takes to gain and keep power, without regard to what was written.
