RCMP to investigate Guergis

I see this as getting a bit extreme -- still, in light of the allegations regarding the house mortgage and influence peddling I suppose Harper had no choice.

OTTAWA_ Prime Minister Stephen Harper has called in the RCMP to investigate embattled Conservative MP Helena Guergis.

He also accepted her resignation from cabinet and temporarily booted her out of the Tory caucus.

The moves follow a mushrooming scandal over an airport tantrum, questionable ethics and husband Rahim Jaffer's legal woes.

Harper refused to say what the Mounties have been asked to look into.

You are quite correct James, these allegations are far from proven.

The MSM in Canada really have to get a grip and a healthy dose of reality.

Did Guergis "resign" of her own free will or was she pressured to leave?

I presume the latter.

Michael Ignatieff--All Over the Map on Spending and Deficit
March 30, 2010
When Canada's Economic Action Plan was first launched in January 2009, Michael Ignatieff called for billions more in stimulus spending than the Conservative Government was proposing.

Ignatieff was quoted as saying "Canada still needs more stimulus spending" (Globe and Mail, Jul. 24, 2009) and "I have a feeling that we're going to need to do more." (Montreal Gazette, Mar. 26, 2009)

Even after calling for more deficit spending, Ignatieff was on the record about the deficit just a few weeks ago saying "I keep telling them, it's not my problem." (CBC News Network, Jan. 19, 2010)

Now Ignatieff is complaining about stimulus spending and the size of the deficit. His solution? Massive tax hikes on Canadians including possible GST hikes, Liberals musing about carbon taxes and an Ignatieff proposal to raise job-killing business taxes.

Ignatieff says there's not enough stimulus spending. Then he says there's too much spending. He says the deficit is not his problem. Then he says it is.

While Ignatieff wants to raise your taxes, our Conservative Government is focused on leading the way on building jobs and growth, ensuring a return to balanced budgets with a prudent economic plan, and ensuring Canada comes out of the global recession stronger than ever.

Michael Ignatieff can propose all sorts of new taxes, but the only thing it proves is that he's not in it for Canadians. He's just in it for himself.

Mr. Anonymous, I'd respectfully suggest now is not the time to support Guergis. She brought this on herself and she had to go, many times over. Save the anti-Liberal ammo for a time when they are being hypocrites. This time, they're justified. Frankly, Guergis-Jaffer make me embarrassed to be a CPC supporter. People like that are the reason I started supporting Reform.

"now is not the time to support Guergis."

Funny, I don't see where I did show support for her, but the last time I checked you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law in this country, the MSM are a disgrace.

"Save the anti-Liberal ammo for a time when they are being hypocrites. This time, they're justified."

Many Liberals are being hypocrites in case you haven't noticed.

James at least is showing some common sense which seems to be a rare commodity with the left in general and especially the MSM.

Michael Ignatieff--All Over the Map on Spending and Deficit

Anonymous, your blast-fax cut-and-paste notwithstanding, Stephen Harper spent Canada 64 Billion dollars into debt. Not Iggy, not Gilles, not Jack. Stephen Harper.

Tax and spend Conservatives had better own up to it, and own it, period.

...but the last time I checked you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law in this country...

Conbots only believe this, when it's not a Conservative in the spotlight. If this were an NDP'er, or a Liberal, Anonymous, you'd be selling rope by the yard.

I'd accuse you of being blind to your own hypocrisy, but being a Conbot coward and refusing to put your name to your cut-and-paste words, I can't really do that, since I prefer to single out individuals for their absurdity, rather than paint all party members with a broad brush. I wouldn't want every Conbot Anonymous poster who visits here to feel slighted, after all.

Now go back to Dimitri's office and tell him what a good sheep you are, cupcake.

Paul Raposo, if you feel the nedd to throw out a gratuitous insult like cupcake it just shows you for what you are.

Now remind me how Iggy and the Liberals would pay for that $5 Billion National Daycare scheme....oh ya, raise taxes.

I'm sorry, I didn't know that cupcakes had taken back the word "cupcake". My sincerest apologies to any and all cupcakes who were offended.

it just shows you for what you are.

A lover of baked goods.

Now remind me how Iggy and the Liberals would pay for that $5 Billion National Daycare scheme....oh ya, raise taxes.

And remind me; whom exactly will be paying for Harper's 64 Billion dollar deficit, and with what? Here, I'll help you out--Us and with tax dollars.

But I guess when Conbots are debating national debt, a few more BILLIONS don't really matter to them.

Now go write some letters to the editor, and sign them with your married name.

Canada still needs more stimulus spending and expanded employment insurance despite the Bank of Canada’s declaration that the country is moving out of recession, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff says.

Bank Governor Mark Carney’s forecast of a nascent recovery still means unemployment will be on the rise for some time, the Liberal Leader said, and Prime Minister Stephen Harper must do more to address it.

“We welcome green shoots in the economy. But it is going to be a tough, long, hard slog to get this country back to full employment,” he said.

“Mr. Harper has said that the time for more economic stimulus is over, it’s finished. …We believe, on the contrary, that there are perhaps other things that need to be done. That’s why we’re insisting on an improvement of employment insurance, for example.”

The two leaders struck a June deal to set up a working group on employment insurance, to discuss a Liberal call for a national, lower standard for eligibility for EI to replace eligibility requirements that vary widely from region to region, and a Conservative proposal for extending some benefits to the self-employed.

The first talks began yesterday, and Mr. Ignatieff accused the Conservatives of dragging their feet.

So you're a misogynist, do you hate your mother too.

What a loser.

Paul Raposo said...

Canada still needs more stimulus spending...economic stimulus...

Please show me where Iggy has called for a larger deficit.

Stephen harper has steamrolled Canada into a 64 Billion dollar debt, and has nothing to show for it, except a massive tax bill for Canadians.

Harper has spent more money that any other government in Canadian history. And no one twisted his arm to do so, he did it of his own volition.

Tax and spend conservatives are, to paraphrase Chris Rock, leaving a bill, while Liberals will have to clean up your mess--again.

So you're a misogynist, do you hate your mother too.

So you're anti-gay, as well as a tax and spend Conbot? Many same-sex couples take their partners names, yet you seem to feel that is only the propriety of women. Stereotype much?

What a loser.

Dimitri won't be happy that you've gone off script.

As a side note, I find it amusing that Anonymous is vehemently defending Helena Guergis, and yet doesn't know all the details of this entire debacle, as evidenced by its comment at 9:17 PM.

Conservatives never allow facts to cloud their judgment.

Paul Raposo, you are a prime example of what is wrong with the Liberal Party.

Paul Raposo, you are a prime example of what is wrong with the Liberal Party.

Your non sequitur notwithstanding, you, my dear Anonymous, have aptly demonstrated why voters will never give the Conservatives a majority government. And I whole heartedly thank you for that.

Now go explain to your children, that their children will be paying for Stephen Harper's 64 Billion dollar debt. And when they ask why, tell them it's because you voted for a tax and spend Conservative government.

Stephen Harper's 64 Billion dollar debt?

Did you get a nasty knock on the head or is your stupidity just natural?

Ignatieff says there's not enough stimulus spending. Then he says there's too much spending. He says the deficit is not his problem. Then he says it is.

Stephen Harper's 64 Billion dollar debt?

Last time I checked, Harper was PM. His party is the government. Who else is responsible for 64 Billion dollars of debt?

Did you get a nasty knock on the head or is your stupidity just natural?

I like to tailor my arguments to the individual I'm debating. Considering I'm debating a Conbot, I had a full frontal lobotomy. Oddly enough, I'm still a half dozen IQ points ahead of the average Conservative party supporter.

Ignatieff says there's not enough stimulus spending. Then he says there's too much spending. He says the deficit is not his problem. Then he says it is.

Yes, yes, I read your CPC talking points. Please come up some new thoughts, Anonymous, it's ok, your head won't 'splode.
